Nov2: VOTE NO ON ONE FOR MAINE EQUALITY

November 3rd, 2009 by admin

SCARBOROUGH, MAINE - Representative Sean Flaherty earned national attention on May 5th when the New York Times wrote about his floor speech on marriage equality.   He was also commended for his vote in the blogosphere.

He was right then and continues to be, as people across the nation continue to watch what is happening in Maine.   But more importantly, Rep. Flaherty didn’t stop supporting this important civil rights issue with his vote back in Maine.  Flaherty has been active in the No on One campaign.

“It’s too important for me not to see this thing through,” said Flaherty, “It’s not only because I’ve become invested, but because I know that we are fighting on the side of equality, justice, and history.”

Flaherty urged all Mainers to join him in voting No on Question one if they haven’t already.  But more importantly, he urged each person to pick up their cell phone and call 5 friends to make sure they voted.

“This is history, and history isn’t made by doing the bare minimum; it’s made by those who work for it,”  Flaherty noted.  “The least we can do is vote, and if we all make just 5 phone calls tomorrow, well, it could mean the difference between winning and losing - between justice and inequality.”
