Mar5: REP SPEAKS UP FOR BOATERS, ANGLERS

Testimony of Representative Sean P. Flaherty regarding LD 415: “An Act Relating to Interference with Navigation on Inland Waters”

AUGUSTA, MAINE - As an avid swimmer, boater, and fisherman in our great state, I can speak to the clear need for this legislation to be passed.

With increasing regularity, folks who own waterfront property are basically “fencing off” large areas of our lakes and ponds in attempts to restrict access for other Mainers.  This is a major issue for boaters, fishermen, recreational users, and even for the safety of swimmers in those areas.

This bill allows for floats and swim lines to extend up to 200 feet off of the shoreline, which is plenty of distance, even for a swimmer like myself to enjoy.

Thank you for your consideration and attention to this matter.
