We are big fans of the micro-blogging service Twitter, and you should be too. Right now not many Maine legislators are on Twitter, sadly, though our Congressional delegation is well represented: @ChelliePingree, @RepMikeMichaud, and @SenatorCollins all tweet away (where are you, Olympia?).  Still, there are a few legislators on Twitter:

@SenKevinRaye, the Senate Minority Leader from Hancock County, was one of the very first Maine legislators on Twitter, and the first member of leadership.

@SethBerry, the House Majority Whip from Bowdoinham, did not start well ( “so what’s so great about this twitter thing??” ) but he’s improving. We’re pleased to see he’s managed to control his proclivity for question marks since that first post.

@PhilMaine is Sen. Phil Bartlett of Cumberland. Unfortunately, he just got started towards the end of session. We look forward to hearing from him more.

@BruceBick is freshman Republican Bruce Bickford of Auburn; he needs a picture.

@MarkBryant is third-term Democrat Mark Bryant of Windham. He has had two tweets, one of which was a partial sentence and the other of which referred to himself in the third person. We’re giving him space to improve.

@dalecraftsis freshman Republican Dale Crafts of Lisbon, who’s just joined Twitter.

@SeanFlahertyME is freshman Democrat Sean Flaherty of Scarborough. Besides being very active and entertaining on Twitter, he has a snazzy website. We think Rep. Flaherty ought to hold a tutorial on Twitter during a Legislative Council meeting and show leadership how it’s done.

@grnrgy is second-term Democrat Jon Hinck of Portland. Hinck, you may recall, defeated Green John Eder in 2006 by just 97 votes. Judging by his tweets, he doesn’t disagree with his predecessor much on environmental issues.

@MaineMartin is freshman Democrat Jim Martin of Orono. Like Rep. Flaherty, Rep. Martin is active and informative.

@petersonforME is freshman Democrat Matt Peterson of Rumford. He also has an active YouTube channel.

@John_C_Robinson is Republican John Robinson of Raymond, a member of the Appropriations Committee.

@senatorrector is freshman Republican Senator Chris Rector of Knox County.

@justinalfond could be freshman Democratic Senator Justin Alfond of Portland. We’re waiting with bated breath to find out.

@Alex_Cornell is likely to be freshman Democrat Alex Cornell du Houx of Brunswick.

@annpeoples may be Democrat Ann Peoples of Westbrook; she’s not yet tweeted.

@piotti is, we hope, Majority Leader John Piotti of Unity, the primary author of the tax reform package. He’s following a bunch of Mainers, so we think it’s a good bet.

@ssteve32 may be freshman Democrat Sara Stevens of Bangor, but she’s not yet tweeted, so it’s a mystery.

Oh, and @EthanStrimling is a former State Senator and Congressional candidate who has yet to tweet.

This is exciting, isn’t it? If you know of any other legislators lurking around out there, please let us know in the comments. And please, try to convince legislators to Tweet! We can’t set up a fancy website like TweetCongress, but we hope more Maine legislators will join Twitter.
