Flaherty Named New Head Coach of Alma Mater
Former Swimming Stand Out Sean Flaherty To Be Hired As New Head Coach of Scarborough High School Swimming

The Scarborough Board of Education is expected to confirm the nomination of a new Head Swimming Coach for Scarborough High School on Thursday July 16th.  Set to take the helm is former Scarborough swimmer Sean Flaherty.

In 1999, Sean Flaherty began his swimming career for Scarborough High School as a freshman stand out, this season he will take the helm of the swim team as a first year head coach.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me to give back to the school and the sport that has afforded me so much,” said Flaherty.  “A tradition of excellence has grown in Scarborough swimming over the last decade, much of it thanks to former head coaches Tim Kipp and Bill Stone.  I’ve got some big shoes to fill, that goes without saying.”

Flaherty, who still owns State, Class, and Conference records from his four years at Scarborough, has been coaching swimming since 2004.  He was previously a coach for the Arlington Aquatic Club in Arlington, Virginia and for the past year and a half, for Coastal Maine Aquatics, a year-round, all-ages swim program based in Cape Elizabeth and South Portland.

“I was always proud to represent Scarborough as a swimmer,” said Flaherty.  “I hope I can motivate our swimmers to be just as proud now that it is their turn. Most importantly, it will be my job to keep up the tradition of great sportsmanship that our swim teams have always been known for.”

Sean Flaherty, a Scarborough native, also serves as State Representative for District 127, which includes part of Scarborough.  He can be reached online at www.seanflaherty.org, via e-mail at RepSean.Flaherty@legislature.maine.gov, or by phone at 207-450-4188.
