RECORD STILL STANDS IN PEAKS-TO-PORTLAND RACE
Portland, ME - After 27 years of the event, Sean Flaherty still holds the fastest time in the 2.4 Mile Peaks To Portland Open Water swim. The fastest of his three consecutive Peaks To Portland victories, Flaherty’s record of 40 minutes and 30 seconds remains the time to beat for athletes braving the frigid waters of Casco Bay.
The 27th Peaks to Portland Swim drew 159 competitors on Saturday with Joe Sheehan of Melrose, Mass., the 2006 winner, winning the men’s race in 42 minutes, 11 seconds. It was the best time since Sean Flaherty’s 40:30 in 2001. Lauren Trocchio of Cape Elizabeth was the top female finisher and 13th overall in 48:42.
