FLAHERTY ANNOUNCES UPDATE AND PLANS FOR 350 TREES PROJECT

September 8th, 2008 by admin

SCARBOROUGH, MAINE – State Legislative candidate Sean Flaherty says he has made progress on his efforts to get 350 Scarborough people to plant a tree both to commemorate the town’s birthday, and also to make a symbolic effort to bring some natural habitat back to a town that has grown so much in the past 20 years.

“There have been some great changes in Scarborough since I grew up here,” said Flaherty, a Scarborough High School graduate and candidate for Maine House of Representatives in District 127. “I have met some very nice people who have moved here in the last few years, while I have been campaigning door to door. But a lot of forest and green land have been sacrificed for housing lots. This tree planting effort is just a simple way to try to make our town a little bit better.”

Flaherty said his goal this summer was to sign up 35 people to agree to plant a tree this fall – 10 percent of the eventual target number of 350. “We have 35 people who have agreed to donate $l0 to the National Arbor Day Foundation who will, in turn, give 10 seedlings per person,” Flaherty said.

“This is a great start! Our plan is to pick a day this fall to do the planting. This will be a nice statement by people in our town that we care about our town’s history, and the 350 celebration, but also about our town’s future and environment.”

Flaherty is encouraging even more folks to sign up to receive and plant 10 seedlings at their homes by going to www.SeanFlaherty.org to sign up or calling him at 450-4188.

Sean Flaherty, a Scarborough native, is a candidate Maine State Representative, House District 127, which encompasses part of Scarborough. For more information about the campaign, please visit www.SeanFlaherty.org .
