CAMPAIGN NAMES WALKER TREASURER

June 2nd, 2008 by admin

SCARBOROUGH, MAINE – Candidate for Maine House of Representatives, Sean Flaherty, announced today he has named Gloria Walker of Scarborough to be the treasurer of his campaign committee.

“This is a great addition to the campaign,” Flaherty said. “Gloria is greatly respected in the community, and brings a lot of knowledge and town experience to us as the mother of two daughters in school, wife, and member of the private business sector.”

Mrs. Walker lives on Coulthard Farms Road, with her husband, Tim, an educator in Westbrook, and two daughters, one a Middle School student and one a High School student. She is employed at a private retirement community in Cumberland County and deals day to day with health care issues with Maine’s aging population.

“A campaign for state representative is all about bringing people together – people of different backgrounds, genders, ages, jobs, interests, and geographic areas,” Flaherty said. “Gloria is well respected in Scarborough by people I have talked to in the school system, in the youth sports area, and in neighborhood groups. She can help educate me on different concerns and issues people in town have. This will be very helpful to me.”

Tim Walker, Gloria’s husband, is an avid runner, and has run the Boston Marathon. Flaherty, a former championship swimmer at Scarborough High School, joked that he and Mr. Walker perhaps should team up on an event Flaherty is involved with Scarborough’s 350 birthday event celebration.

“There is a sprint triathlon that the 350th Committee is putting together for July as part of the celebration,” Flaherty said. “We will have teams-one person doing the bicycling part; one doing the running part; and one doing the swimming part. It sounds like Tim and I ought to team up, we just need to find someone who’ll tackle the bike leg!”

House District 127 includes parts of Scarborough, namely Blue Point, Black Point, Pleasant Hill, and Old Millbrook. The other parts of Scarborough are represented currently by Rep. Pendleton.
