Aug19: FLAHERTY TO ADDRESS COUNCIL ON PINE POINT LAND SWAP

August 19th, 2009 by admin

Scarborough, ME - Representative Sean Flaherty has been working hard in a effort to assist residents of Scarborough with information that may be critical to the approved Land Swap at the end of Pine Point Road.

“I’ve been working hard over the past couple weeks, checking and rechecking with State Agency after State Agency,” Flaherty noted, “to make sure that this land swap is okay.  Residents of the town, and specifically Pine Point, have asked me to use my contacts at the State level.  When I started really getting into the issue, it became clear that there are far too many questions than answers around the land swap.  And so I will be advising the council, based on my own work, that they should reconsider the motion and immediately table it so that we can ensure that all of the I’s are dotted and the T’s crossed to avoid any legal challenges from this point forward.”

Flaherty said he will be working right up until the start of the meeting to get as many questions answered as possible, but that it appears that too many outstanding issues will remain before he can say, with any certainty, that all of the land being swapped belongs to the town.

“My constituents asked me to look into whether or not the State ever transferred or deeded or eased the disputed property to the Town,” Flaherty added, “and the fact of the matter is, I can’t say that all the land has been.”

The full text of Flaherty’s remarks to the council will be published at his website, www.SeanFlaherty.org, after the Town Council meeting.
